Difference between "Home" and "House"

Posted by Unknown  |

House describes a particular type of building.

Home has a much more personal meaning. It is the place where you live and feel that you belong to.

Look at these Examples:

She lives in a little house.(Just describing a building structure.)

We were at home in bed when our car was stolen from outside the house.

These children need a good home and we are in a position to give them one.(Children just not need a building to live, they need love and caring too)

If I say "My office is my home" what it means is "I spend much of my time in my office and I feel comfortable there".

I feel New York is my home.(It shows your emotional attachment with New York.)

The Houses of Parliament in London are visited by 50,000 people each year(It's just describing a building).
