"Made of" Vs "Made from" Vs "Made with"

Posted by Unknown  |

Made of is used when the material the subject consists of doesn't change during the process of making the subject.
( made  of implies there are no (or few) other major elements means we are mentioning only one material which was used for manufacturing)

When a material is changed into a completely different form to make something, we often use made from.

To mention one of several materials (e.g. in cooking), we can use made with.

Look at the following Examples:

  • The rod is made of iron.(Iron doesn't transform into something else)

  • Table is made of wood.(Here, wood is still wood. It doesn't transform into something else.)

  • The table is made from a tree.( A tree has changed into a table. A tree is very different.)

  • Paper is made from wood.(Paper is completely different from wood)

  • The table is made with wood and glue. (Two or more things have been put together to make the table.)
