Learn the words "Apathetic","Pragmatic","Reiterate and "Detain"

Apathetic(Adjective)

Showing or feeling no interest, enthusiasm, or concern.



Example
  • Young people today are so apathetic about politics.
  • Don't be so apathetic - how are you going to get a job if you don't appear in an interview? 


Pragmatic(Adjective)


Solving problems in a realistic way which suits the present conditions rather than obeying fixed theories, ideas or rules. 


Examples


  • The book's mind-over matter approach is pragmatic and well-explained.
  • In business, the pragmatic approach to problems is often more successful than an idealistic one.

Reiterate (Verb)past tense: reiterated; past participle:reiterated

Say something again or a number of times, typically for emphasis or clarity. 


Examples


  • The government has reiterated its commitment to the uplifting the condition of the poor.
  • She avoided answering our questions directly, instead reiterating that the answers could be found in her book.

Detain(Verb)
past tense: detained; past participle: detained
Meaning 1>To force someone officially to stay in a place .

  • A suspect has been detained by the police for further questioning.
  • She was detained without trial for two years .

Meaning 2>Officially seize and hold (goods):
  • Customs officers may detain goods for up to two days.
